Set in the rolling hills outside Ronda, in the Denominación de Origen Sierras de Málaga wine region, Finca La Melonera is a family-run, organic, biodynamic estate that has spent the last two decades reviving ancient grape varieties nearly lost to time — including the rare Tintilla, Melonera, and Rome grapes that almost disappeared from Spanish viticulture.

Your visit includes:

🌉 Free time in Ronda

After the winery, we drive into Ronda — a 15-minute scenic route past the vineyards. You’ll have ~2 hours of free time to walk the historic centre at your own pace. Most guests use the time to:

• Visit the famous Plaza de Toros bullring (oldest in Spain)

Where exactly is Finca La Melonera?

About 15 minutes outside Ronda, in the rolling hills of the DO Sierras de Málaga wine region. The estate is family-run, organic and biodynamic, and best known for reviving ancient grape varieties.

What wines will we taste?

Typically 4–5 wines — usually 1–2 whites and 2–3 reds, including their flagship blends. The selection rotates with the harvest and the winery’s release schedule. If you have specific preferences (more reds, focus on rosés, etc.), let us know when booking and we’ll mention it ahead.

Are tapas included or do we pay separately?

Included. The wine tasting comes with artisan tapas — local Sierra de Grazalema cheeses, Iberian cured meats, marinated olives, fresh bread, and seasonal Andalusian specialities — designed to pair with the wines. It’s substantial enough to count as a light lunch, though many guests still grab a coffee or small plate in Ronda afterwards.

Will I be able to drive after the tasting?

Yes — that’s the entire point of a private tour with a driver-guide. Tastings are paced and unhurried; you can taste freely without worrying about the road home. We’ll drive you back door-to-door.

Is this tour suitable for cruise passengers from Málaga port?

Yes, and we run it regularly for cruise guests. Pickup is at the cruise terminal, and we monitor your ship’s departure schedule to ensure you’re back at least 1 hour before sailing. The full 7-hour duration fits comfortably within most port stops of 9+ hours.

What if I don’t like wine or am pregnant?

The tour still works — the winery offers non-alcoholic alternatives (juices, sparkling water, local soft drinks) and the tapas, vineyard walk, and Ronda visit are the same. Mention this when booking and we’ll arrange.

Can children come on this tour?

Yes — children are welcome. Finca La Melonera is family-run and family-friendly. Children under the legal drinking age receive non-alcoholic alternatives and the same tapas. Please mention ages of any children when booking.

What about dietary restrictions?

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and other dietary needs can all be accommodated — let us know when booking and we’ll arrange with the winery in advance. The standard tapas pairing includes meat and cheese, but the kitchen can adapt.

What happens if it rains?

The tour goes ahead in any weather — most of the experience is indoors at the winery cellar and barrel room. The vineyard walk is the only outdoor portion and can be shortened or skipped in heavy rain.

Do you offer pickup from places other than Málaga and Marbella?

Yes — we frequently pick up from Estepona, Mijas, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Calahonda, and other Costa del Sol locations. Pricing may adjust slightly for distant pickups; just send us your hotel/Airbnb address when booking and we’ll confirm.

Can I take wine bottles home?

Absolutely. Finca La Melonera has a winery shop where you can buy bottles to take home. They’ll also help with packing wine for travel if you need.

How far in advance should I book?

2–3 weeks ahead in low season, 3–4 weeks in summer or for cruise dates. Finca La Melonera limits private group visits per day, so weekend slots in particular fill up.

Is the tour available year-round?

Yes — we run this tour all year. Winter (November–March) is actually a beautiful, quieter time at the winery and Ronda is dramatic with snow on the surrounding sierras. Spring and autumn are our most popular months.
