Private Day Trip to Ronda from Malaga or Marbella
Full-day private tour to Ronda from Málaga, Marbella, or anywhere on the Costa del Sol. Hotel pickup, licensed local guide, Puente Nuevo bridge, El Tajo gorge, the oldest bullring in Spain, and enough free time for a proper lunch with a view. The most popular day trip we run — and for good reason.

Why Ronda?
Ronda is 100 km from Málaga and 65 km from Marbella. The town sits at 723 metres on the edge of a plateau, split in two by El Tajo gorge. The Puente Nuevo bridge spanning it took 42 years to build and stands 98 metres above the river. The bullring below, finished in 1785, is the oldest in Spain. The old Moorish quarter has Arab Baths from the 13th century, a palace with a secret staircase carved 231 steps into the gorge wall, and some of the best gorge-view restaurants in Andalusia.
It’s the most popular day trip we run — and the one that gets mentioned most in our TripAdvisor reviews. Ronda delivers.
What You’ll See
- Puente Nuevo: The 18th-century bridge spanning El Tajo gorge 98 metres above the river. Free to cross; interpretation centre inside (€2.50 optional).
- El Tajo Gorge viewpoints: Mirador de Aldehuela for the head-on view
- Ronda Old Town (La Ciudad): The Moorish quarter — narrow white streets, the Plaza Duquesa de Parcent, Arab Baths, Casa del Rey Moro and the 231-step water mine.
- Plaza de Toros: The oldest bullring in Spain, built 1785. Entry included in the tour price.
- Local lunch: Your guide recommends the best restaurants based on your preferences — rabo de toro, local Ronda wine, or a relaxed terrace lunch with gorge views.
A Private Tour — Not a Coach
The Puente Nuevo terrace gets crowded by late morning in summer, when the coach groups arrive. The difference with a private tour isn’t just comfort — it’s timing. We leave when it suits you, arrive when the light is right, and skip the queue.
Your guide adjusts the day to your group. More history — we focus on the Roman, Moorish, and Christian layers of the town. More photography — we time the viewpoints and find the angles most visitors miss. More relaxed — we build in a longer lunch and let you wander at your own pace. The itinerary is yours.

Peter Fischer
Peter was born and raised in Málaga and spent his university years in the United States. He created Costa Excursions specifically for guests — particularly visitors from the US, UK, and Germany — who want a more personal and flexible experience than a standard group tour. He knows Ronda well: the viewpoints most tourists miss, the restaurants worth booking, and the history that makes the town genuinely interesting rather than just photogenic.
Thomas Liedtke
Thomas grew up in Málaga, studied and lived in Germany, and returned to the Costa del Sol to work with Peter. He’s been leading Ronda tours since the beginning. Reviews regularly mention him by name — the kind of thing that doesn’t happen with a coach guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ronda worth visiting from Málaga?
Yes — it’s the most popular day trip we run and the one mentioned most in our reviews. The Puente Nuevo bridge, El Tajo gorge, and the old Moorish quarter are the real thing. Most guests say it was the highlight of their Costa del Sol trip.
How far is Ronda from Málaga?
100 km — approximately 1 hour 30 minutes by car via the A-357. From Marbella it’s 65 km and approximately 1 hour via the A-397 mountain road.
How long does the private Ronda day trip take?
7–8 hours total, including travel time, guided sightseeing, and lunch.
What’s the difference between a private tour and a group tour to Ronda?
Group tours use shared coaches with 30–50 people, fixed departure points (usually Málaga bus station), and a fixed schedule. Our private tour picks you up at your hotel, travels with only your group, and adapts the itinerary to your interests and pace. At 4 people the per-person cost is higher than a coach tour, but the vehicle, guide and itinerary are yours alone.
Is the bullring included?
Yes — entry to the Plaza de Toros (oldest bullring in Spain, built 1785) is included in the tour price.
Can we skip the bullring?
Yes — if bullfighting isn’t your thing, we skip it and use the time for other sights or a longer lunch. Several reviews specifically mention that we adapted the tour to skip the bullring. The time is yours.
Can Ronda be combined with Setenil de las Bodegas?
Yes — Setenil is about 20–30 minutes from Ronda and works well as an afternoon add-on. The village is built into rock overhangs — houses with the cliff face as the ceiling. We combine both regularly. Mention it at booking and we’ll plan the day accordingly.
Is this tour suitable for cruise passengers?
Yes — Ronda is one of our most popular cruise shore excursions. We pick up directly at Málaga cruise terminal, monitor your ship’s departure schedule throughout the day, and plan the return with buffer time built in. We’ve never had a guest miss their ship.
Is the tour suitable for older travellers or those with limited mobility?
Yes. Ronda has some cobbled streets and uneven areas, but the pace is fully adjustable. We can reduce the walking, skip steep sections like the Casa del Rey Moro descent, and focus on the most accessible viewpoints and sights.
