I´m glad that I am not the only one who thinks that this town is cute and that its historic center is simply perfect. Frigiliana has been considered as the most popular popular architectural complex of Arabic origin in Andalusia.

Really, why do we need to go to Santorini or to Mykonos if we have in Spain such beautiful places? Cobblestone streets, white houses decorated with flowers, colored doors …

The best places to see in Frigiliana

Frigiliana is known for being the village of the three cultures (Christian, Jewish and Muslim). Today you will see its Moorish past in the famous Fountain of the Three Cultures or in the Adarve del Torreón vessel.

I will briefly recommend the best places to see in Frigiliana:The Plaza de las Tres Culturas is the square that will welcome you to the town. It can be considered as a Mediterranean Balcony because of the views of the sea in the distance.

Los Reales Propósitos was the place where the leftover grain was formerly stored. This building is the perfect reference point to walk towards Calle Real and begin your walk around Frigiliana.

Two steps later there is a place where the Real street and Hernando el Darra street branch. It is probably one of the most photogenic places in Frigiliana. You’ll recognize it right away.

When you get there, you will have a question: take the right or left street? I recommend you take the path on the right to continue towards the Barribarto.

You are in the Moorish neighborhood of Frigiliana. Here you will find the most beautiful streets of Frigiliana such as Calle de la Amargura or Calle Alta. Actually both streets are an extension of each other. Can´t get any better than this.

Another beautiful streets in Frigiliana are Zacatín street and El Garral street. I warn you, in both you will get lots of stairs.

Going down Garral Street, don’t forget to look at the fountain of the three cultures with their three symbols of the different religions, the Christian cross, the star of Jewish David and the Muslim crescent moon.

In the town square you will find the Church of San Antonio de Padua and the City Hall. Do you feel like having a soda here? Perfect! You are in the best place.

And I can’t forget about Frigiliana’s viewpoints like El Peñón Viewpoint or Lízar Viewpoint. Do you know that an advertisement for Coca Cola was filmed in one of these viewpoints?

Before I told you about eggplants with cane honey, you remember I mentioned it at the beginning of the post, right? In Frigiliana you can find the cane honey factory Nuestra Señora del Carmen, the only cane honey factory in Europe. You can find it in what was once the Palace of the Counts of Frigiliana.

The Archaeological Museum is also another interesting place to see in Frigiliana to learn more about the history of the town from the Neolithic to today, through Moorish and medieval remains. In addition, next to the museum is the Tourist Office of Frigiliana.

Do not be scared if during the walk through the historic center you find locals painting their houses or doing street crafts. I insist, these authentic experiences are what make this town completely unique.

Beautiful view of Frigiliana, a picturesque town in Spain, from a day trip starting in Malaga.

Where to eat in Frigiliana

As you can imagine, cane honey is something basic in Frigiliana. Do not leave without trying fried eggplants with cane honey, one of the typical dishes of Frigiliana. Also very typical are the crumbs or the fried choto in almond sauce.

These are some restaurants that I recommend:

La Bodeguilla, on Calle Real.
Adarve Restaurant, on Calle Alta, 3.
